WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Bob Ganley robbed Willie Keeler of an extra base hit.

Sam Leever completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Boston-NL
Beaneaters defeated the Chicago-NL Cubs 5 to 1 at South End
Grounds.

Boston-NL wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning with 2 runs
using 2 hits. Willie Keeler led off and started the rally when he slapped a
one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Socks Seybold stepped in and he
reached on an error. Harry Davis then drew a walk to load the bases.
Charlie Hickman was up next and he drew a walk scoring a run. One out later,
Frank Bowerman came up and he lined a base-hit scoring the final run of the
inning. That scoring would be all that was needed. Boston-NL finished with
just 5 hits in the victory.

Leever(12-4) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Doc Scanlan(7-9)
ended up with the loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not
allow an earned run in the game.

The Boston-NL ballclub's record now stands at 47-44. Chicago-NL has a record
of 42-35 after the loss.
