In a good matchup it was the Philadelphia-AL Athletics 10, the pathetic
Detroit Tigers 8 at Shibe Park.

Philadelphia-AL erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Ira Thomas got things going
when he ripped a one-base hit. Al Bridwell was next to bat, but he was a
strikeout victim. Tris Speaker then doubled. Mike Donlin followed next and
he doubled scoring two baserunners. Frank Schulte stepped into the box and
drew a walk. After another out, Fred Merkle stepped up to the plate and he
delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams ended
up with 14 hits on the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Bert Humphries(2-2) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Fred Toney(3-3) was charged with the loss in relief. He
allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 1 inning.
