Hal Newhouser had a complete game at Griffith Stadium where the Washington
Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 2.

Washington drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was all that
Newhouser(8-9) required. Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.

Eddie Lopat(5-8) absorbed the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 5 walks in 6
innings. 'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Andy Spector said.
'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
