Mickey Mantle blasted a homerun and had 6 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics embarrassed the New York-AL Yankees by the lopsided
score of 16 to 5.

Mantle was in a groove all day. The New York-AL fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He smashed a two-run homer in the 2nd inning,
ripped a one-base hit resulting in a run in the 5th inning and doubled with
all three baserunners touching home in the 7th inning. Philadelphia-AL lit
up the scoreboard in the 1st inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits and
the 7th inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits. Overall Philadelphia-AL
out-hit New York-AL 17 to 11.

The victory went to Bob Lemon(9-7) who went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs. Camilo
Pascual preserved the game for Lemon, recording his his 3rd save. Willard
Nixon(6-4) was hit with the loss. By surrending 10 runs in 5 innings his ERA
jumped from 3.44 to 4.25.

'Mantle led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Lemon
said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
