Joe Nuxhall pitched 10 strong innings and Del Crandall had 4 hits at Crosley
Field where the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago-NL Cubs in 12 innings 3 to
2.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings.  Cincinnati ended up
winning it in the 12th inning.  Joe Astroth laced a base-hit.  Pee Wee Reese
was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Gil McDougald then drew a walk.
Jack Phillips stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Nellie Fox
stepped into the box and drew a walk resulting in an exciting win for
Cincinnati and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Chicago-NL was out-hit by Cincinnati, 13 hits to 9.  

The winning pitcher was Willard Schmidt(10-2) who allowed no runs in 2
innings. Tom Gorman(1-4) was given the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 and 1/3
innings giving up 1 hit and 3 walks.
