Third baseman Fred Corey had 3 base hits and 3 RBI and Bobby Mathews completed
the game without help from the bullpen as the Philadelphia Athletics defeated
the New York Metropolitans in 10 innings by the score of 11 to 8 at West
Diamond.

Both teams had scored 8 runs after nine full innings.  Philadelphia won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  Lon Knight opened up the inning
nicely when he reached on an error.  Harry Stovey came next and he ripped a
base-hit, and an error was also committed, knocking in a run.  After an out
was recorded, Corey then delivered a single plating one more runner.  Jack
Lynch then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed ball.  Jocko
Milligan came to the plate and singled scoring the final run of the inning.
Philadelphia banged out 15 hits on the afternoon.  

Mathews(19-7) lasted until the end allowing 8 runs for the win. Lynch(15-12)
took the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 inning giving up 3 hits and no walks.
