7,726 fans watched an exciting game at Sportsman'S Park.  The Philadelphia-AL
Athletics topped the St. Louis-AL Browns by the slimmest of margins, 9 to
8.

The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings.  Finally, Philadelphia-AL
prevailed in the 10th inning.  Morrie Rath laced a one-base hit.  Two outs
later Home Run Baker came to the plate and drew a walk.  Frank Laporte then
ripped a base-hit scoring the run.  Laporte took second on the throw.
Philadelphia-AL totaled 14 hits on the afternoon.  

Joe Benz(3-4) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Benz got
relief help from Sandy Burk who gained credit for his 5th save.  Hank
Robinson(5-2) was the loser in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 1
inning.
