Jack Phillips had 3 base hits and 5 RBI as the Boston-AL Red Sox defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates 12 to 4 at Forbes Field.

Phillips had a big day at the plate.  He slapped a single which was good for
two runs in the 3rd inning, tripled emptying the bases in the 4th inning and
banged out a one-base hit in the 7th inning.  Pittsburgh was out-hit by
Boston-AL, 17 hits to 5.  

Erv Palica(4-11) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. The loss was
charged to Eddie Lopat(6-9).  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 5
walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
