Curt Simmons pitched a complete game shutout and Sam Mele left the yard and
had 3 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers clobbered the outmatched Pittsburgh
Pirates, 10 to 0.

Simmons(9-4) dominated Pittsburgh hitters. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.67 to 3.39. Offensively,
Brooklyn was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.

Vinegar Bend Mizell(5-6) was the loser. He was knocked around, surrendering 6
runs in 5 innings. 'We really needed this win' said Roy Purcell. 'That
first drink of water at the end of a drought sure does taste good!'
