Jim Canavan knocked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Ice Box Chamberlain went the
distance at League Park as the Cincinnati Reds staged a comeback win over the
Cleveland Spiders by the count of 12 to 11.

Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Farmer
Vaughn jump-started the rally as he delivered a single. Canavan was next and
he hit a single. Bug Holliday then singled, and an error was also committed,
driving home two runs. John Clarkson then let one slip out of his hand for a
wild pitch resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. The score went back-and-forth with the
lead changing 5 times.

The win went to Chamberlain(10-5) who allowed 11 runs in the game. Cy
Young(20-7) was tagged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 8 and
1/3 innings.

Charlie Comiskey was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard
fought game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did
you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this
afternoon!'
