Smoky Joe Wood racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts and Larry Doyle
cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Washington Nationals topped the St.
Louis-AL Browns by a score of 11 to 8 at American League Park.

Doyle punished St. Louis-AL with his bat. He belted a three-run homer in the
1st inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 5th inning and ripped a base-hit
in the 6th inning. Washington banged out 14 hits on the afternoon.

The victory went to Wood(8-6) who went the distance allowing 8 runs. The
losing pitcher was Ed Reulbach(5-6). He was not very effective, surrendering
9 runs in 7 innings.

Tim Singer was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you
see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling
the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
