Joe Wood went the distance as the Boston Red Sox outscored the Detroit Tigers
7 to 4.

Boston had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs on
4 hits.  Duffy Lewis led off and got things going when he ripped a base-hit.
Larry Gardner came to the plate and ripped a single.  Gardner swiped second
base.  Steve Yerkes stepped in and he doubled knocking home two runners.
After an out was recorded, Pinch Thomas came to bat and stroked a single
scoring the final run of the inning.  Boston had 16 hits for the afternoon.

Wood(13-2) finished the game allowing 4 runs in the victory. Hooks Dauss(8-5)
absorbed the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 15 hits and 1 walk.

With this win, Boston has a league leading 56-26 record.  They have been 7-3
lately.  Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Detroit is 1-9 of late
and now has an overall record of 41-50.
