Doc Ayers was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game at League Park as the Washington Nationals beat the reeling Cleveland
Indians by the count of 2 to 1.

Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
plating 2 runs using 2 hits. Danny Moeller opened up the inning nicely when

Foster took second on the throw. Clyde Milan got his chance to keep things
going, but he went down on strikes. Howard Shanks came up and he would
ground out scoring a run. Chick Gandil came to the plate and was walked
intentionally. Doug Neff added to the uprising and drew a walk to load the
bases. Eddie Ainsmith next to the plate and he drew a walk scoring the final
run of the inning. The Cleveland batters didn't put up a fight in the bottom
of the 9th.

Ayers(5-2), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Willie
Mitchell(8-8) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and 5 walks
in 8 innings.
