WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Red Schoendienst robbed Mickey Mantle of a base hit.

Richie Ashburn had 2 base hits at Forbes Field as the blistering-hot New
York-AL Yankees beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3 to 2.

New York-AL plated all the runs they needed in the 1st inning when they
tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was all that Mel
Parnell(7-7) required. The Pittsburgh bats were silent in the bottom of the
9th.

Bob Kelly got the save, his 1st. Vinegar Bend Mizell(6-7) was given the loss.
'He gutted it out' Robert Baker said of Parnell. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'
