Tommy McCarthy had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Jim Sullivan allowed Frank Selee to
rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Boston Beaneaters beat the
Chicago Colts by a score of 18 to 11.

McCarthy enjoyed a great day at the plate. He doubled scoring two baserunners
in the 3rd inning, banged out a single knocking in a run in the 4th inning,
doubled in the 6th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the 7th
inning. Boston bats were hot in the 4th inning when they had 4 runs on 4
hits and the 7th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 6 hits. Due to a
poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough
for Chicago to come away with the victory.

Sullivan(7-2), allowing 11 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Bill
Hutchison(10-13) suffered the loss. He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 20 hits and 6 walks in 8 innings.

The winning ways continue for Boston. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent
days. Cap Anson was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been
sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That
won't get it done.'
