Doc Scanlan tossed a fine 2 hitter and Homer Smoot had 5 hits as the
Chicago-NL Cubs topped the Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 2 at
American League Park.

Washington was unable to climb back into it after Chicago-NL went ahead for
good in the top of the 3rd inning plating an isolated run using 3 hits.
Chicago-NL banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.  

Scanlan(6-6) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Long Tom
Hughes(6-7) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 5 runs and 11 hits in 9
innings.
