Second baseman Larry Schlafly had 2 base hits and Charlie Smith allowed Jake
Stahl to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Washington
Nationals beat the Chicago White Sox in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 1.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Washington came out on
top in the 10th inning.  Schlafly doubled.  After an out was recorded, Howard
Wakefield came up and he laced a one-base hit resulting in a mighty exciting
win for Washington and the 1,451 home town fans in attendance.  The teams had
been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.  

Smith(3-7) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Nick Altrock(13-8)
suffered the loss.  He pitched 9 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 10 hits and
no walks.
