Washington started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first plating 3 runs on 3 base hits. Red Murray got things going when he reached on an error. Claude Ritchey followed and he banged out a single. Roger Bresnahan then slapped a base-hit scoring a single run. Fred Clarke came up and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Claude Rossman came to the plate and hit a deep fly scoring another baseruner. Kaiser Wilhelm then tossed a pitch that the catcher mis-handled. Fred Osborn stepped into the batter's box and he lashed a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia-AL had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The victory went to Cicotte(11-4) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs. Cicotte got help from Jack Coombs who was credited with his 4th save. Wilhelm(7-6) was the loser. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 4 innings and not allowing an earned run. 'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Andy Spector said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'
