Center fielder Rebel Oakes had 5 hits and 4 RBI and Smoky Joe Wood went 9
strong innings as the Washington Nationals destroyed the Boston-AL Red Sox by
a score of 13 to 2 at Huntington Ave Grnds.

Oakes was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense. He ripped a single which plated a run in the 1st
inning, laced a base-hit plating a run in the 3rd inning, banged out a
one-base hit in the 5th inning, doubled in the 7th inning and tripled
bringing in two baserunners in the 9th inning. Washington lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning which saw them score 4 runs on 5 hits and the
9th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits. Washington totaled 23 hits on the
afternoon.

Wood(17-7) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Chief Bender(3-5)
was hit with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 10 runs in 8
and 1/3 innings.
