In a close game the sizzling New York-AL Yankees got by the Pittsburgh Pirates
in 10 innings by the score of 11 to 9.

Both teams had scored 9 runs after nine full innings.  Finally, New York-AL
pulled the game out in the 10th inning.  Andy Seminick kicked off the action
when he doubled.  After an out was recorded, Granny Hamner came up and he
slapped a base-hit.  Hamner took his lead and swiped second.  Jim Greengrass
followed next and he doubled scoring two teammates.  New York-AL and
Pittsburgh each finished the afternoon with 14 hits.  

Satchel Paige(3-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Paul
Minner got the save, his 2nd.  The losing pitcher was Ellis Kinder(4-4) in
relief.
