Billy Hoeft completed the game without help from the bullpen at Yankee Stadium
where the Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the New York-AL Yankees 4 to 2.
In the top of the 4th inning Philadelphia-AL scored 2 runs. After two outs
Sammy White began the rally when he drew a walk. Bobby Avila followed and he
drew a walk. Hoeft then drew a walk to load the bases. Jim Piersall was up
next and he stroked a single knocking home two runners. After the 4th
inning, neither team was able to score.
Hoeft(7-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. The losing
pitcher was Marion Fricano(4-6). He gave up 4 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings.
