Mickey Vernon had 4 hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates clobbered the outmatched
Philadelphia-AL Athletics, 13 to 3.
Vernon really lit it up for Pittsburgh. The Philadelphia-AL fans let him have
it for what he did to their boys. He stroked a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 2nd inning, lined
a base-hit which brought home a run in the 4th inning and ripped a base-knock
which scored a run in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had many opportunities
throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.
The win was credited to Billy Pierce(9-7) who went 6 innings allowing 1 run.
Mike Garcia(11-7) was the losing pitcher. He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 3 innings.
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Vernon said.
'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
