WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Charlie Bennett blocked the plate, saving a run!

Ned Williamson ripped 2 homeruns and Gus Krock pitched a complete game at
Recreation Park as the Chicago White Stockings beat the Detroit Wolverines by
the count of 7 to 5.

Chicago won the game with a rally in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 5
base hits. Fred Pfeffer led off and got things going when he slapped a
single. After an out was recorded, Williamson came to bat and hit a
bases-empty home run. Tom Burns then doubled. Krock came up and he ripped a
base-hit plating another run. Silver Flint was a strikeout victim, unable to
help out. Jimmy Ryan contributed to the rally and drew a walk. Marty
Sullivan stepped up next and he reached on an error. Duke Farrell then laced
a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. This was the kind of game
that many fans love as the lead changed hands 6 times.

The victory went to Krock(14-8) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. Lady
Baldwin(0-5) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 15 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
