Catcher Bob Scheffing lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI as the
St. Louis Cardinals bested the Pittsburgh Pirates 12 to 6 at Sportsman's
Park.

Scheffing had a big day at the plate.  He ripped a base-hit plating two runs
in the 1st inning, lashed a single in the 5th inning and cracked a two-run
shot in the 7th inning.  St. Louis managed 15 hits in their victory.  

Harry Brecheen(11-5) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Bubba Harris
was credited with his 17th save.  Allie Reynolds(4-12) ended up with the
loss.  By surrending 8 runs in 5 innings his ERA jumped from 5.07 to 5.44.
