Jouett Meekin went the distance and Mike Tiernan had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the
New York Giants crushed the struggling St. Louis Browns 17 to 5.
Tiernan had a big day at the plate. He stroked a single in the 1st inning,
doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning, doubled which was good
for two runs in the 4th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the
9th inning. New York bats were very productive in the 2nd inning which saw
them score 4 runs on 4 hits, the 3rd inning when they had 6 runs on 4 hits
and the 9th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits. New York rapped
out 17 hits for the afternoon.
Meekin(9-8), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The loss was
charged to Mike McDermott(0-10). He was unable to control the New York
offense and allowed 16 hits and 5 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
