Chief Bender pitched a complete game as the Boston-AL Red Sox outscored the
Philadelphia-NL Phillies 8 to 3.

Boston-AL had the winning rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs utilizing 5 base
hits.  Ed Hahn opened up the inning nicely when he ripped a base-hit.  Billy
Sullivan was next and he stroked a single.  Sullivan took off for second and
slid in with a stolen base.  Bender was up next and he banged out a single
plating two runs.  Al Shaw came to the plate and stroked a single.  After an
out was recorded, Roy Hartzell came to bat and doubled scoring the final run
of the inning.  Boston-AL banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.  

The victory was credited to Bender(4-6) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. The loss was charged to Rube Manning(5-6) in relief.  He was knocked
around, surrendering 5 runs in 2 innings.
