WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: George McBride robbed Paul Meloan of a base hit.

Kid Elberfeld had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals won in dramatic
fashion over the floundering St. Louis Browns by a score of 12 to 8 at
Sportsman's Park.

A hugely decisive outburst by Washington in the 9th inning quieted any St.
Louis hopes for a victory as they pummeled St. Louis for 9 runs on 6 hits.
The big moment was provided by Doc Gessler who quieted the home crowd when he
tripled with all three baserunners touching home. St. Louis was out-hit by
Washington, 15 hits to 9.

The victory went to Walter Johnson(10-7) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Dode Criss(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. After the game, it took a long
while before Bobby Wallace emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he
answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm
not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand.
I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the
Washington locker room.'
