Jack Coombs came through with a solid 9 innings at Huntington Ave Grnds as the
Washington Nationals beat the Boston-AL Red Sox in 11 innings by the count of
5 to 1.

The score was tied at 1 after nine.  Washington was victorious in the 11th
inning.  The key at-bat was by Shano Collins who silenced the crowd when he
banged out a single scoring two baserunners.  Neither team was able to score
until the 7th inning.  

The win was credited to George Kahler(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing no
runs. The losing pitcher was Mordecai Brown(3-2) in relief.  Washington
scored big getting 5 runs off him in 4 innings.  

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 45-50.  With the loss Boston-AL
now has a record of 47-52.
