Left fielder Ted Williams had 4 hits as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 6 to 3 at Crosley Field.

Boston won the game with a run in the 8th inning.  Elbie Fletcher was hit by a
pitch.  Hal Jeffcoat came next and he ripped a one-base hit.  Joe Gordon then
drew a walk to load the bases.  Bob Dillinger followed and he hit a deep fly
scoring the run.  Cincinnati went down without a fight in the bottom of the
9th.  

Jack Banta(4-3) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Andy Hansen got the save, his 1st.  Monty Kennedy(3-8) was tagged
with the loss in relief.  He gave up 2 runs and 3 hits in 2 innings.  

The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 36-45.  With the loss Cincinnati
now has a record of 33-48, worst in the league.
