Sid Gordon knocked 2 homeruns at Sportsman's Park where the New York Yankees
beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 10 to 4.

Gordon was a one-man wrecking crew.  He ripped a base-hit which scored a run
in the 1st inning, ripped a one-base hit in the 5th inning, ripped a solo
home run in the 7th inning and launched a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th
inning.  New York finished with 18 hits while St. Louis ended up with 10.

The victory was credited to Robin Roberts(9-5) who went 7 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Harry Brecheen(7-6) was charged with the loss.  He was hit
hard and gave up 12 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.  

Wth the win New York now has a record of 52-45.  With the loss, the St. Louis
ballclub's record is 46-51.
