WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Charlie Dexter blocked the plate, saving a run!

In a great finish the indomitable Boston Beaneaters came back in the top of
the ninth and held on to win over the floundering Louisville Colonels by a
score of 7 to 6 at Eclipse Park.

Boston had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 4 base
hits. Bobby Lowe led off and he lined a base-hit. Jack Stivetts was next
and he ripped a one-base hit. Two outs later Fred Tenney came up and he
reached on an error bringing in a run. Herman Long stepped in and he doubled
adding another two runs to their total. Both teams ended up with 10 hits on
the afternoon.

The victory went to Ted Lewis(11-7) who went 8 innings, allowing 6 runs. Kid
Nichols recorded the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Bill Magee(4-7).
He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 walks.

Magee was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
