Second baseman Amby McConnell had 3 base hits and 3 RBI and Ray Collins was
able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at
Bennett Park where the Boston Red Sox beat the struggling Detroit Tigers by
the score of 9 to 4.

Boston came up with 6 runs in the 5th inning when they had 5 base hits.  The
crucial at-bat was provided by Tris Speaker who helped quiet the crowd when
he tripled plating two runs.  Boston banged out 14 hits on the afternoon.

The victory went to Collins(1-0) who went the distance allowing 4 runs. Kid
Speer(1-3) was hit with the loss.  He was unable to control the Boston
offense and allowed 14 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
