In a dramatic ending at Fenway Park the Boston-AL Red Sox won in their last
at-bat beating the Cleveland Indians by the count of 7 to 6.
Boston-AL scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. Ron Northey ripped a
base-hit. Ted Williams followed next and he drew a walk. Johnny Groth then
stroked a one-base hit to load the bases. Joe Gordon was up next and he drew
a walk giving Boston-AL the victory and sending the 18,520 home-town fans
home happy. Boston-AL out-hit Cleveland for the game, 12 hits to 8.
The win went to Mickey McDermott(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Mike
Garcia(11-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 2 walks
without retiring a batter.
