Catcher Joe Tipton homered at Shibe Park as the Boston-AL Red Sox beat the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics by the count of 6 to 4.

Philadelphia-AL never recovered after Boston-AL took the lead in the 2nd
inning as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits.  The biggest moment was provided
by Dick Groat who silenced the stadium when he slapped a one-base hit which
was good for two runs.  Philadelphia-AL had 11 hits in the game while
Boston-AL had 8, but Boston-AL had the more timely hits.  

The winning pitcher was Johnny Klippstein(4-7) who allowed 3 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Klippstein was helped out by Hoyt Wilhelm who recorded his 7th save.
Bob Kuzava(4-7) suffered the loss.
