Charlie Smith allowed just 7 hits at American League Park as the Washington
Nationals beat the St. Louis Browns in 13 innings by the count of 2 to
1.

The score was tied at 1 after nine.  Washington came out on top in the 13th
inning.  Jake Stahl laced a base-knock.  Howard Wakefield stepped up to the
plate and he delivered a one-base hit.  Charlie Hickman then slapped a
base-hit giving Washington the win as 754 happy fans joyfully celebrated.
Washington rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.  

The win went to Smith(4-7) who allowed 1 run in the game. Harry Howell(8-11)
suffered the loss.  He surrendered only 2 runs and 9 hits in 12 innings.

'Smith just dominated us' losing pitcher Howell said.  'Hopefully we can get
to him the next time around'
