Left fielder Enos Slaughter ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the
blistering-hot Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of
13 to 5 at Crosley Field.

Slaughter was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He lined a single
in the 2nd inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 3rd inning
and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 4th inning. Cincinnati finished with
17 hits while Pittsburgh ended up with 10.

Rip Sewell(4-1) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. Sewell got relief
help from Preacher Roe who gained credit for his 9th save. The losing
pitcher was Ellis Kinder(5-6). He got hammered, allowing 14 hits and 4 walks
in 4 innings.

'The ball was jumping off my bat' Slaughter said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
