Fred Goldsmith completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Chicago
White Stockings beat the Cleveland Blues by a score of 9 to 8.

Cleveland was unable to claim the lead after Chicago went ahead in the bottom
of the 6th inning scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.  Chicago totaled 15 hits on
the afternoon.  

Goldsmith(16-8) allowed 8 runs on the game. Jim McCormick(16-19) was the
losing pitcher.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 15 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings.  

'He gutted it out' Cap Anson said of Goldsmith.  'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
