Pretzels Getzien tossed a complete game and Sam Thompson had 2 base hits and
scored 3 times as the Detroit Wolverines defeated the Chicago White Stockings
by the score of 14 to 9 at Recreation Park.

In the 3rd inning Detroit scored 6 runs when they came up with 4 base hits.
The critical plate appearance was by Jack Rowe who came through for the home
fans when he smacked a single bringing home two baserunners. Chicago had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Getzien(11-5) finished the game allowing 9 runs in the victory. The loss was
charged to George Van Haltren(4-3). He was unable to control the Detroit
offense and allowed 13 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.

Bill Watkins was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'
