WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Art Nichols robbed Lave Cross of an extra base hit.

Herman Long had 2 base hits as the Chicago-NL Cubs topped the New York-NL
Giants by a score of 7 to 4 at Polo Grounds.

Chicago-NL scored the winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs on 4 base
hits. Shad Barry led off and started the rally when he banged out a single.
Long stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a base-hit. After an out
was recorded, Duke Farrell then laced a base-knock to load the bases. Kip
Selbach was up next and he drew a walk which brought home a run. Monte Cross
stepped into the box and singled, and an error was also committed, adding
another two runs to their total. Chicago-NL had 11 hits for the afternoon
while New York-NL had 7.

Cy Morgan(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no
runs. Morgan got relief help from Ed Poole who gained credit for his 2nd
save. The losing pitcher was Bill Bernhard(1-5) in relief. He was not very
effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.
