Al Mays struck out 10 batters as the New York Metropolitans won a dandy at St.
George Grounds over the Cincinnati Red Stockings, 3 to 2.

The game was won by New York when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning. After an out was recorded, Tom Forster reached on an error. Tom
McLaughlin stepped into the batter's box and he smacked a single, and an
error was also committed. Bill Holbert then would hit into a fielders choice
making New York the winners and sending the 340 fans home happy. New York
and Cincinnati each finished the afternoon with 5 hits.

The victory went to Mays(5-12) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Tony
Mullane(18-15) was charged with the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in his 8 and 1/3 innings of work.

Bob Ferguson was asked about the performance of Mays, 'He had his good stuff
out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
