One run was the difference at Boundary Field as the Washington Senators
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 7.

Washington promptly took the lead in their half of the first scoring 5 runners
on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Ed Cartwright who elicited a roar from
the hometown fans when he smashed a two-run homer. Philadelphia had a chance
to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Al Maul(7-7) got the win allowing 6 runs in 8 innings. Maul got help from Otis
Stocksdale who was credited with his 1st save. Jack Taylor(12-7) was given
the loss.

Arthur Irwin was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the
press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
