Fielder Jones had 6 hits and 4 RBI and Harley Payne completed the game without
help from the bullpen as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms really laid it on the
pitiful Louisville Colonels 18 to 4.
Jones had a good day at the plate. He slapped a single in the 1st inning,
doubled which scored a run in the 3rd inning, doubled which plated a run in
the 5th inning, lashed a one-base hit in the 6th inning, doubled which
brought home a run in the 7th inning and delivered a base-hit knocking in a
run in the 8th inning. Brooklyn bats were hot in the 7th inning with 4 runs
on 3 hits and the 8th inning when they had 9 runs on 5 hits. Brooklyn
totaled 16 hits on the afternoon.
Payne(12-8) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. Roy Evans(2-6) ended
up with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 6 walks in 7 and 2/3
innings.
