Pink Hawley carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Pittsburg Pirates
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 2 to 1 at Exposition
Park.

Hawley(7-14) was very good in the win.  He surrendered only 6 hits and no
walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.  The right-handed Hawley lost a no-hitter when
Billy Nash doubled with nobody out in the 6th inning.  Philadelphia
threatened in the 9th but Pittsburg was able to put down the rally.  

Jim Gardner preserved the game for Hawley, recording his his 2nd save.  Al
Orth(9-12) was the loser.  He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
