Jack McCarthy had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Pittsburg Pirates defeated the
awful Washington Senators by a score of 10 to 8 at Exposition
Park.

Pittsburg scored 6 runs in the decisive bottom of the 3rd inning when they
came up with 6 base hits. The big moment was provided by Willie Clark who
thrilled the crowd when he doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond.
Washington had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Jesse Tannehill(18-6) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 runs for the victory.
Jim Gardner got the save, his 2nd. Win Mercer(6-10) was the losing pitcher.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 16 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Arthur Irwin was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
