In a thriller the Philadelphia-NL Phillies staged a dramatic comeback then
held on to win over the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by a score of 5 to 4 at
Columbia Park.
Philadelphia-NL came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3
runs using 3 hits. After two were out John Titus began the rally when he
stroked a base-hit. Jack Hannifin stepped up next and he tripled which
scored a run. Doc Gessler then was walked intentionally. Lou Criger stepped
in and he laced a base-knock, and an error was also committed, accounting for
two more runs. Philadelphia-NL had a total of 8 hits for the game.
The winning pitcher was Rube Manning(4-4) who allowed 2 runs in 2 innings.
Frank Corridon(2-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Hannifin said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'
