John Clarkson allowed Patsy Tebeau to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Brooklyn Grooms by the score of 7
to 5 at Eastern Park.

In the 5th inning Cleveland scored 3 runs when they had 3 base hits. George
Davis opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Ed McKean was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out. Jake Virtue then doubled scoring a
single run. Jimmy McAleer was up next and he hit a single. Ed Stein then
fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any
event, it got by him and was ruled a passed ball scoring another run. Jack
O'Connor did his part to keep things going and laced a one-base hit scoring
the final run of the inning. Cleveland managed 9 hits in their victory.

Clarkson(11-12), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory.
Stein(10-9) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 9 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings.
