The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Sportsman's Park.  The final score was the St. Louis
Cardinals 2, the Cincinnati Reds 1 in 12 innings.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  St. Louis won the hard fought
contest in the 12th inning.  Eddie Yost drew a walk.  Dave Philley followed
and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Jerry Priddy then stroked a one-base hit
making St. Louis the winners and sending the 30,933 fans home happy.  The
game was a scoreless duel until the 8th inning.  

The winning pitcher was Monk Dubiel(4-2) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Randy Gumpert(3-3) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an
inning allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
