WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Gene Baker robbed Monte Irvin of a base hit.

Center fielder Willie Mays slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Municipal
Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of
6 to 4.

Mays had a big day with his bat. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 2nd
inning, doubled which scored a run in the 5th inning, clubbed a solo home run
in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Pittsburgh had 14 hits for
the night while Cleveland had 8.

The victory went to Ned Garver(7-9) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Garver was helped out by Ellis Kinder who recorded his 3rd save. The losing
pitcher was Frank Sullivan(5-8). He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of
work.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Mays said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not
do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game,
and pitch by pitch.'
