Third baseman Jesse Hoffmeister hit for the cycle and Jim Hughey completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Pittsburg Pirates ballclub
embarrassed the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 20 to 10.

Hoffmeister was spectacular at the plate. He tripled bringing home two
baserunners in the 2nd inning, hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his
teammates in the 4th inning, doubled in the 6th inning and delivered a
base-hit in the 8th inning. Pittsburg provided plenty of action in the 1st
inning plating 4 runs, the 2nd inning with 4 runs on 5 hits and the 4th
inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 6 hits. The score went back-and-forth
with the lead changing 5 times.

Hughey(4-5) allowed 10 runs on the game. The losing pitcher was Jack
Fifield(11-9). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 19 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.

'The ball was jumping off my bat' Hoffmeister said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
