In a close game the Philadelphia-NL Phillies got by the floundering Boston-AL
Americans by the score of 5 to 3.

Philadelphia-NL brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 4th
inning when they had 4 base hits.  Kid Elberfeld led off and started the
attack as he slapped a base-hit.  Hal Chase stepped up to the plate and he
doubled scoring a single run.  John Kane then laced a one-base hit scoring
one more run.  Kane took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.
After an out was recorded, Barney Pelty stepped in and he banged out a single
scoring the final run of the inning.  For the game Philadelphia-NL out-hit
Boston-AL 12 to 6.  

Pelty(7-7) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Carl Lundgren
preserved the game for Pelty, recording his his 7th save.  George Mullin(5-7)
was the loser.  He was touched for 12 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
